Conservative opportunity: Fill-in-the-blank objection

While conservatives say they know they have little chance of defeating Mr. Obama’s choice because Democrats control the Senate, they say they hope to mount a fight that could help refill depleted coffers and galvanize a movement demoralized by Republican electoral defeats.

It’s an immense opportunity to build the conservative movement and identify the troops out there”, said Richard A. Viguerie, a conservative fund-raiser. “It’s a massive teaching moment for America. We’ve got the packages written. We’re waiting right now to put a name in.”

This is the quintessence of the “Party of No”: Fill-in-the-blank objections. I can see Republicans getting people to sign petitions:

“Obama’s Supreme Court nominee is a baby-killing, criminal-loving, homo-supporting liberal! Sign this petition to save America!”

“Who’d he nominate?”

“Don’t know yet…some liberal elitist. We’ll fill the name in for you later. Just sign it down by the ‘X’.”

“Well, okay. I sure don’t want some damn liberal hippie freedom-hater taking all my rights away!”

“Stick your address on that, too–in case we need to verify you’re existence.”

“Sure.’

“Hey–don’t forget your credit card information. We need that for verification purposes.”

“Verifying what?”

“Everything! Democrats don’t verify, remember? Voter fraud! ACORN! Barry stole the election because he didn’t verify! We verify! You’re not an anti-verification commie, are you?”

“No, but…”.

“But nothing! Conservatives make sure they have all the facts!”

“But…you said Obama hasn’t nominated anybody yet.”

“Don’t you listen?? We’ll VERIFY the name before we turn this in!”
