While Bush attempted to work up support for invading Iran, Defense Secretary Robert Gates wasn’t drinking the koolaid. Instead of repeating the Bush administration’s talking points: 1) Nuclear weapon. 2) Nuclear weapons. 3) Nuclear weapons. 4) Did you hear me say Nuclear weapons???
Gates believed that a mix of incentives, pressure, and dialog was the best way for the United States to deal with Iran.
Gates also runs parallel to President Obama on taking responsibility, ousting two top Air Force officials after two nuclear debacles occurred on their watch.
